Phase 1 of conditioning begins at local Santa Barbara-area public high schools

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - It was many happy returns for dozens and dozens of student-athletes at San Marcos High School.

Under strict health guidelines, San Marcos, Santa Barbara and Dos Pueblos High Schools are now allowed to have some athletes working out on campus.

Athletes in football, cross-country, volleyball and water polo along with sideline cheer squads can return to campus to take part in sports activity for the first time since the second week of March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The athletes are conditioning in small groups and are not using equipment yet. All of the workouts must take place outdoors with strict physical distancing.

The earliest the games will begin will be volleyball and water polo in mid-December with cross-country and football scheduled for early January of 2021.
