Golden Goal by Philipp sends UCSB men’s soccer to Big West final

UCSB edges UC Davis 1-0 on a golden goal by Nemo Philipp in the second overtime in a Big West semifinal game.

UC SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Nemo Philipp scored a golden goal in the 107th minute to give UCSB a double overtime 1-0 victory over UC Davis in a Big West men's soccer semifinal game.

The Gauchos controlled most of the action throughout the game but just could not find the back of the net until Philipp beat Aggies keeper Charles Janssen with a left-footed blast to the far post.

The game-winner set off a wild celebration as the Gauchos advance to next Saturday's Big West title game and will host UC Irvine.

The Anteaters prevailed over UC Riverside in a PK shootout 4-2.
