Gauchos earn several Big West honors including Co-Pitcher of the Year(Boone) and Co-Freshman of the Year(Sprinkle)

Rodney Boone and Jordan Sprinkle of UCSB receive major honors from Big West Conference

UC SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UCSB lefty Rodney Boone was named Co-Pitcher of the Year in the Big West after leading the conference with 10 wins and was second with a 2.20 Earned Run Average.

He shares the award with Johnathan LaVallee with Long Beach State.

The Gauchos Jordan Sprinkle is the league's Co-Freshman Field Player of the Year as he led the league with 25 stolen bases.

He hit .358 with 18 double and collected 77 total hits.

Cal Poly shortstop Brooks Lee was honored as Co-Field Player of the Year and the Co-Freshman Field Player of the Year in the conference.

He led the Big West with 57 RBI and was second in the nation with 27 doubles which is a Cal Poly school record.

Mike Peabody of UC Irvine was also Co-Field Player of the Year and the Anteaters Ben Orloff is Coach of the Year.

UCSB placed six players on the Big West First Team: Sprinkle, Boone, Cole Cummings, Zach Rodriguez, Michael McGreevy and Carter Benbrook.

Cal Poly placed two players on the First Team All-Conference: Lee and Myles Emmerson who also received Tri-Defensive Player of the Year as he threw out 11 would be base stealers at catcher.

UCSB plays Oklahoma State on Friday in an NCAA Regional game in Arizona.
