Gauchos run in NCAA Tournament is blocked by top seed Hawai’i

UCSB loses in straight sets to top seed Hawai'i in an NCAA Tournament semifinal match.

COLUMBUS, Ohio. - UCSB ran into a familiar obstacle and it proved too big to overcome.

The 3rd-ranked Gauchos lost to top seed Hawai'i in straight sets (21-25, 18-25, 23-25) in a semifinal match of the NCAA Tournament in men's volleyball.

UCSB finishes the season 16-5 and were 0-4 against Hawai'i.

The Gauchos hit just .170 in this semifinal match and Hawai'i registered 14 blocks.

Randy DeWeese had a match-high 13 kills.

DeWeese, Roy McFarland, Casey McGarry and Keenan Sanders all came back for a fifth year to try and bring the Gauchos program their first national title in volleyball.

The group did win the Big West Tournament Championship.
