SANTA MARIA, Calif. - People all over Santa Barbara County are feeling the heat.

"I don’t like the heat," said resident Roland Garcia of Santa Maria.

As temperatures reach triple digits throughout the county, Santa Faria firefighters are asking people to take precautions when going outdoors.

"We are getting some warmer weather now so people are going to definitely start feeling the heat and it’s going to start affecting people," said Battalion Chief Tony Clayburg of the Santa Maria Fire Department.

Montecito firefighters treated a hiker suffering heat exhaustion on the hot springs trail on Monday.

In order to avoid heat related health problems, firefighters recommend not doing outdoor activities during the middle of the day.

"What we're encouraging people to do as you know stay out of the sun get in the shade make sure you stay hydrated," said Clayburg.

As the heatwave continues, firefighters say be mindful of your limits and exercise during the cooler hours of the day.

"Get all of your physical activities done in the morning ... usually the hotter part of the day is in the early afternoon," said Clayburg.

If you are experiencing heat exhaustion, the fire department says to call 911.

As the heat wave continues, the fire department is saying, stay out of the sun as much as you can.

The northeasterly winds are also expected to increase wildfire danger.

Right now, fire danger is listed as “high” by the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
