Ventura school placed on temporary lockdown after woman is arrested with pellet gun

VENTURA, Calif. -- A Ventura elementary school was placed on a temporary lockdown after a woman was seen with a rifle on Thursday morning.

At around 7:58 a.m., Ventura police received multiple reports of a woman brandishing a rifle on the 2400 block of Alameda Avenue in Ventura.

Police officers were dispatched to the area.

Police contacted Montalvo Elementary School nearby to place students under lockdown for their safety.

School Resource Officers were also sent to the school as a precaution.

Officers found the suspect walking in the area and identified her as a 33-year-old Vagrant woman.

She was detained and officers found that the rifle was a pellet gun.

She was placed under arrested for brandishing an imitation firearm and trespassing a resident's property.

No one was injured.

She was booked into Ventura County Jail.
