4.5 magnitude earthquake jolts LA, Ventura counties

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. - A 4.5 magnitude earthquake jolted some awake in Los Angeles County and the surrounding area Friday night.

The quake hit around 11:38 p.m. near South El Monte, which is just east of Los Angeles.

The earthquake was initially estimated at 4.8, then downgraded to 4.6 and then to 4.5.

A USGS map indicates the people reported feeling the shaking south to San Diego, north to Santa Barbara and east into the Inland Empire.

There were no immediate reports of significant damage or injuries.
