VENTURA, Calif. -- Ventura Police arrested one man during a drug lab raid in Ventura on Wednesday.

On Wednesday night at around 11:36 p.m., Ventura Police received a call from a concerned citizen reporting on on a chemical odor coming from a nearby apartment.

The citizen say they looked through an open window and saw what they believed to be a drug lab.

Police arrived at the 700 block of East Santa Clara Street in Ventura.

Police contacted and detained a suspect.

The suspect was identified as Joshua Headley, 20, from Ventura.

Street Crimes Unit Narcotics detectives responded to the scene and began an investigation.

Detectives were able to determine that the apartment was an illegal drug lab and the drug that was being produced was dimethyltryptamine or DMT.

DMT is a hallucinogenic tryptamine drug, and this drug produces effects similar to those of psychedelics, like LSD and magic mushrooms.

Detectives served a search warrant at the apartment with assistance of Department of Justice LA Impact clandestine labratory response team.

During the execution of the search warrant detectives were able to recover evidence from the dismantled lab including manufactured DMT.

Headley was arrested for manufacturing a controlled substance and operating a drug house. He was booked in Ventura County Jail.

A search of the Ventura County Superior Court shows that Headley has no prior arrest.
