Ojai man arrested on suspicion of DUI, hit and run in Ventura County

VENTURA, Calif. -- California Highway Patrol in Ventura arrested one man on suspicion of driving under the influence, and hit and run in Ventura on Wednesday.

On Wednesday at around 6:18 p.m., CHP units responded to reports of a two car collision on La Luna Avenue at El Roblar Drive in Meiner Oaks.

At arrival officers found that the driver of the 2009 Nissan Titan failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with a 2003 Toyota Camry.

After the collision, the driver of the Nissan fled the scene in his car.

Ventura County Fire responded to the scene to help extricate the driver of the Toyota. She was then transported to Ventura County Medical Center with major injuries.

The driver of the Nissan returned to the scene on foot and was arrested by officers.

The driver was identified as Nathan Whitteker, 34, from Ojai.

Whitteker was arrested for suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol and hit and run.

He was transported and booked in the Ventura County Main Jail.

The incident is still under investigation.
