Ventura County to resume issuing marriage licenses

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. - The Ventura County Clerk Recorder, Registrar Mark Lunn announced his office will begin issuing marriage licenses on Monday May 4.

The Ventura County Government Center was closed to the public on March 18 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. All marriage services were suspended when the building closed.

"We have strictly followed local health orders for nearly seven weeks to do our part to slow the spread of the coronavirus. We have determined we can resume issuing marriage licenses for this critical life event for Ventura County residents while safely adhering to social distancing practices," Lunn said in a news release.

Marriage ceremonies will continue to be suspended. Applicants will be asked to find a private officiant for their ceremony. Under state law, marriage licenses are valid for 90 days.

Requirements:

·         Appointment only

·         Building entry limited to the two applicants

·         At least one applicant must be a Ventura County resident (with exceptions for active military and first responders); identification required

·         Application must be completed online in advance at http://apps.countyofventura.org/ailis5/; applicants without internet access can call (805) 654-2263 and request an application be mailed to them

·         Must submit to County screening to gain building entry

·         Must bring and wear masks and adhere to social distancing protocols during the entire visit; masks will not be provided
