CHP identifies teen killed in crash near Cal Poly

CAL FIRE

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - California Highway Patrol has released the identity of the teenager killed in a crash near the entrance to Cal Poly on Saturday.

17-year-old Finnegan Lee Hartford Osbaldeston from San Luis Obispo was reportedly making a left turn on a green arrow at the intersection of Highland Drive and Highway 1 Saturday morning when he was struck by pickup truck.

CHP said, while Osbaldeston's 1990 Volvo 240 was in the intersection, a 79-year-old Morro Bay man driving a Ford F-150 failed to stop for his red light and drove straight into the side of the teen's vehicle.

The force of the crash pushed the Volvo into a third vehicle that was waiting for their red light on the opposite side of the intersection.

Both the teen and the driver of the Ford were transported to hospitals for treatment.

Unfortunately, Osbaldeston ultimately died from his injuries.

This crash is under investigation by CHP.

Anyone with information or who witnessed the crash is urged to contact Officer J. Jennings at 805-594-8700.
