SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — After months of messiness and do-it-yourself styles, hair salons have returned to the rescue.

This has many people excited to get haircuts oncemore.

"I really have not been out,” Christina Burnes said. “One of the first things I wanted to do was get my hair done."

With additional health and safety guidelines, Brianna Olcese has reopened Studio B Salon & Style Bar.

"All the clients are excited to be here, get their hair done and have some sort of normalcy,”  Olcese said.

In order to reopen, Studio B has installed two large glass walls to clients from each other.

Employees are also taking temperature checks and requiring everyone to wear a mask.

"I'm used to wearing a mask now,” Burnes said. “So it was no problem and I appreciate that everyone else is wearing a mask."

Each night after closing, Studio B is professionally cleaned and sanitized.

"We sanitize between each client,” Olcese said. “After each client we're changing out our masks and gloves."

Across town at Kids Cuts, customer’s safety is also a high priority.

Longtime owner Carol Spears temporarily removed all the children’s toys inside, installed plexiglass near the cash register and is discarding all salon capes after each client’s use.

"Feels good to be able to still be in business and to have my clients want to come in,” Spears said. “It feels really good."

Some customers seem to enjoy the return to a regular routine.

"You feel like a little bit of you is getting back to normal,” Barbara Shaffer said. “Little bit of you is able to take control of something."

While some people are happy to be back at salons, others remain hesitant with COVID-19 concerns.

"Some are very excited to get their haircut and others are being a little reluctant,” Spears concluded. “We're not as busy as we normally are."

Kids Cuts is now open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call 805-681-9596.

At Studio B Salon & Style Bar, call 805-626-0370 or visit their website in order to reserve an appointment.
