Driver arrested for car theft in San Luis Obispo

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - San Luis Obispo CHP arrested driver , Jonah Fernandes, 25, for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property and reckless driving.

Both the driver and the passenger, Brittany Hughartaguilar, 30, declined medical transportation.

On Tuesday around 3:00 p.m., California Highway Patrol San Luis Obispo units attempted to locate a reported stolen vehicle.

A White 2014 Chevrolet Camaro, had fled from a traffic stop and was last seen driving on Northbound 101 while speeding down Cuesta Grade.

CHP had lost visual of the suspects car and a "be-on-the-lookout" was conducted by CHP Templeton and San Luis Obispo.

At around 5:30 p.m. CHP Templeton found the car traveling Northbound SR-41 near Homestead road. CHP attempted to stop the car but the car went around a sharp curve while speeding.

The driver lost control of the car as it traveled off the road and into an oak tree. He then fled on foot and was later arrested after searching through the area.

CHP Air Operations, County of San Luis Obispo Sheriff's Office, and the Atascadero Police Department all responded to the incident.
