$200 million Ventura Harbor development project nears completion

VENTURA, Calif. - A new way of living has arrived at the Ventura Harbor. Portside Ventura Harbor, is the latest development to offer a mix of residential and retail in Ventura County.

“Portside Ventura Harbor is a mixed use community with 270 residential apartments, 30 live/work spaces and 22,000 square feet for retail,” Portside development manager Michael Sondermann said.

Prime Steak House has already agreed to a lease in one of the retail spaces. With other businesses expected to be confirmed soon. It's been built with 104 boat slips and is conveniently located across from Ventura's Harbor Village.

“Harbor Village is really important to Portside," Sondermann said. "One of the concerns we have as a community is we want to make sure that Harbor Village, which has been here for a long time, stays vibrant."

Part of the longtime plan is to have a water taxi stop at Portside that will transport residents and others to Harbor Village to shop and eat.

The project didn't come cheap or quickly. The $200 million development has been 20 years in the making.

While the project isn't complete, parts of the development are done and residents are already moving in. Units range from $2,200 per month studios, to $5,000 3-bedrooms.

The 27 acre property is expected to be completed in May.
