SANTA MARIA, Calif. -- City officials said free 31-day bus passes are now available to local teens in the 7th-12th grade who live, work or attend school within Santa Maria city limits.

Recipients of financial assistance programs including students who receive free or reduced school lunches are eligible, according to the Recreation and Parks Department.

The city said this grant comes from the Recreation and Parks Department, the Mayor's Task Force on Youth Safety and Santa Maria Regional Transit.

Passes are available at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, located at 600 South McClelland Street, according to city officials.

The application processing hours are from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The department said students are required to show documentation of school identification, verification of financial need and they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

For any questions, call the Recreation and Parks Department at (805) 925-0951 extension 2260.
