Firefighters knock down vault fire in Orcutt

Mike Eliason // Santa Barbara County Fire Department

ORCUTT, Calif. -- Firefighters knocked down a fire located in a vault in Orcutt on Tuesday morning.

At around 9:44 a.m., Santa Barbara County Fire responded to reports of a structure fire on the 4000 block of South Bradley Road in Orcutt.

At arrival, they found smoke coming from a vault from the back of the building, underground in the Frontier Communications Building.

Firefighters worked strategically to access the vault.

Firefighters knocked down the fire and said there were no further damages to the rest of the building.

PG&E later said that they conducted a Rule 20A project along Bradley Road Santa Barbara County where electric lines are placed underground. Due to the project, there was some switching between the overhead and underground conductor causing an electrical incident.

PG&E says their crews returned to the 4000 block of Bradley Road and verified a voltage issue and de-energized the circuit.

PG&E says their crews are on scene and are waiting for access from Santa Barbara County Fire Department in order to investigate the equipment problem and make any needed repairs.

County Fire says the cause is under investigation.
