Santa Maria offering free noise-sensitive signs, pet crates ahead of Fourth of July

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The city of Santa Maria is preparing its residents in advance for the Fourth of July weekend celebration.

Firework yard signs will be readily available for residents who are sensitive to the loud noises, including veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, people with autism, pet owners and noise-sensitive locals.

The signs are two-sided with English on one side and Spanish on the other.

Signs and stakes may be picked up by appointment at City Hall at 110 East Cook Street, Mondays through Thursdays. To make an appointment, call the City Public Information Manager at 805-925-0951 ext. 2372.

Pet crates will also be available to the community for those that want to keep their animals safe.

County Animal Services at 548 West Foster Road will have pet crates available for loan (pick up Monday, June 28, return Tuesday, July 6). It may be required to make an appointment due to physical distancing protocols. Be sure the pet is wearing a tag and is microchipped. If a pet goes missing, be sure to visit the Animal Services Shelter or call 805-934-6119.
