American flag returns to flagstaff in Santa Maria

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - The Santa Maria Police Department announced that the American flag that was torn down during a gathering after a peaceful protest is back on the flagstaff at City Hall.
A peaceful protest took place in Santa Maria on Sunday. After the march ended, a group gathered on the corner of Cook and Broadway. Cars were seen burning rubber around a fire that had been built in the middle of the intersection and an American flag was torn down. Others lit fireworks and broke into businesses in the Santa Maria Town Center. Only when looting and break-ins were reported did Santa Maria police respond.
On Wednesday, police reportedly arrested those responsible for the illegal activity, and cars involved in the demonstration were impounded.
Santa Maria police are continuing the investigation into the disturbance.
