Orcutt Union School District names new Superintendent

ORCUTT, Calif. -- The Board of Trustees for the Orcutt Union School District announced their selection for the new Superintendent on Wednesday.

The Board names Holly Edds as the final candidate for Superintendent.

Edds will take over the position from Deborah Blow who announced in January that she would be retiring at the end of the 2019-2020 school year.

Edd has been a member of the Orcutt Union School District's management team for the past 16 years.

The Board President gave the following statement on the appointment:

“We are very excited that Dr. Edds will be the new Superintendent for Orcutt Union School District. Based on the feedback and criteria received during our stakeholder process, were looking for someone with both a vision and dedication that will keep students and teachers at the center, and with experience supporting a diverse community. As part of our national search, we interviewed a number of experienced and promising candidates, but it was clear that Dr. Holly Edds had the professional background, and passion to lead our district into its next chapter”.

She has recently served as the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services. She has been in that position since 2010.

Before coming to OUSD, Edds served as the Principal to Joe Nightingale Elementary School for six years. She has also previously worked as a teacher and administrator in San Luis Obispo County.

The Board notes her experience in teaching both regular and special education. Edds also holds multiple teaching credentials including a reading specialist certificate.

Edds gave the following statement about her new position:

“I am grateful for this amazing opportunity to partner with our Board of Trustees in continuing the commitment to excellence for our students. This district holds a special place in my heart because of the people who work and live here. We have such dedicated employees and such a supportive community. It is clear that the culture in this district continues to put students first and to do whatever it takes to ensure our students have what they need to succeed not only in the time they are here with us, but in their future endeavors. I am proud of what we have accomplished and excited about what is yet to come.”

Edds received her Bachelor’s degree at the University of California, Irvine, her Master’s Degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and her doctorate from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
