Santa Barbara man rescued from Santa Barbara house fire by police
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - A man was pulled from a fire that broke out on the eastside of Santa Barbara on Wednesday morning.
At around 9:53 a.m., Santa Barbara City Fire received reports of a fire on the 700 block of Spring Street in Santa Barbara.
Engines responded and found a structure fire fully in flames with smoke throughout the eastside area.
Before firefighters arrived, Santa Barbara police officer Adrian Gutierrez was nearby the fire and responded to the scene. He heard screaming from inside the home and used his baton to break the window of the home in order to gain access to the man inside the home.
Officers C. Ortega, D. Valerio and a local business owner also assisted on scene.
Officer Guttierez, Officer Valerio and the business owner were able to pull out the man from the window.
The man sustained smoke inhalation and other injuries. He was not transported to a hospital.
A family of dogs and puppies were rescued from an adjacent structure. They were said to not have any injuries.
Due to the fire being so big, police evacuated nearby homes on the 700 block of Spring Street along with several buildings located on North Milpas Street.

The three police officers that responded had minor cuts and smoke inhalation from the incident. One of the officers needed medical care.
Firefighters were able to have control of the fire within minutes and knocked it down an hour later.
The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical issues.
Spring Street was closed to traffic.
