Santa Barbara MTD increasing bus capacity

KEYT

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District will be increasing bus capacity as Santa Barbara County heads into the Yellow Tier of the state's reopening plan.

Buses will return to full seated capacity beginning Thursday, MTD said in a news release. Capacity has been limited for several months since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

38 passengers can now ride in a 40-foot bus and between 20 and 28 passengers can ride on a 30-foot bus, depending on the type of bus.

Previously, MTD had a capacity of 20 passengers on 40-foot buses and 15 passengers on 30-foot buses.

Those taking the public transit will still need to wear masks throughout the ride and at bus stops and transit centers. That requirement will remain in place until at least Sept. 13, due to federal mandates.
