Ortega Park murals the focus of a community workshop

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Momentum is growing in the effort to save more than a dozen murals in Ortega Park.

A  community workshop will be held in Ortega Park Saturday, April 24  to discuss the future of the culturally sensitive artworks.

The City of Santa Barbara and members of the One Community Bridge Project are working together to come up with a solution. The culturally sensitive murals date back to the 1970's and highlight our Chicano and Mexican-American community.

The majority of the 18 murals are slated for demolition ahead of a major, multi-million dollar park renovation by the City of Santa Barbara.

Saturday's workshop will help center the murals into all discussions about the new park design. It starts at 1:00 p.m. and is open to the public.
