Santa Barbara County reports new COVID-19 death

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department reported one new coronavirus-related death on Wednesday.

The latest death brings the county's coronavirus death toll to 117.

This person was a Santa Maria resident between the ages of 50 and 69. They had underlying health conditions, public health officials said.

A death is counted as a coronavirus death when the public health department receives a death certificate that lists COVID-19 as the cause of death or a significant contributing factor in the death. It can often take weeks to verify.

This latest death was not associated with any shared living facilities, according to the public health department.
