SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to reports of an injured or sick hiker near Cathedral Peak in Santa Barbara Friday afternoon.

Around 2:45 p.m., the hiker was reportedly located above Tunnel Trail in the Mission Canyon area. Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue responded along with a County Fire hoist helicopter.

Emergency crews successfully located the hiker above Seven Falls. The hiker was reportedly suffering from dehydration and a heat illness. With temperatures around 100 degrees in the area at that time, crews determined the hiker needed medical attention.

The hiker was then hoisted out of the area into the helicopter where a paramedic began treating them and transported to Cottage Hospital for further evaluation.

Santa Barbara County Fire asks that everyone remember to drink plenty of water and limit their outdoor exposure this weekend while an excessive heat warning has been posted throughout California.
