Shelter in place issued in Santa Barbara due to ongoing police situation
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Santa Barbara Police issued a shelter in place to people near Figueroa and Santa Barbara streets on Wednesday afternoon.
At around 2 p.m., a distraught male identified himself to police officers at the Santa Barbara Police Department on the 200 block of East Figueroa Street.
Police say he held a sharp object to his body.
Police proceeded to provide an array of different resources to help the man in distress and alleviate the situation.
Police issued a shelter in place near the area of Santa Barbara Street and Figueroa Street.
Police took the man into custody and will be assessing his needs.
The shelter in place has been lifted.
