Wild winds took down a large tree and power lines in Montecito Thursday night.

MONTECITO, Calif. - Howling winds brought down trees and several power lines in Montecito Thursday night, leaving hundreds in the dark.

A large tree and some power lines went down on East Valley Road where it meets Picacho Lane.

As of late Thursday night, SoCal Edison crews were working to restore power and another crew was using chainsaws to try to cut the massive tree into moveable pieces.

The National Weather Service reported gusts reaching up to 69 mph in the Montecito Hills through the evening hours.

Firefighters on scene said there was no fire in the area but the power lines arced brightly as they went down.
