ISLA VISTA, Calif. - The unsanctioned Deltopia street party event that was talked about over this weekend in Isla Vista is likely not going to happen after several coronavirus related decisions were made recently.

UC Santa Barbara nearby shut down and students began online courses. Many left the area.

The Isla Vista Parks and Recreation Department began shutting down certain park areas and urging social distancing with numerous signs.

The Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors imposed a beach closure in the IV area and called any type of large gathering irresponsible during the virus crisis.

Sheriff's Deputies are ready and have a full street marked off for emergency vehicles. Signs are around the Foot Patrol office on both sides of Trigo street.

In recent years, Deltopia has been scaled back and on-campus concerts along with strong parking rules, checkpoints and zero tolerance have led to a lower number of arrests and serious injuries.

The name "Deltopia" comes from the Floatopia event that drew thousands about ten years ago with no forewarning to local leaders. It was driven by social media and was a massive beach party with health and safety dangers.

When the beaches were closed off in the following years, the event moved to Del Playa Drive and was renamed, Deltopia.

It has drawn large crowds, mainly for fun with water pistols, small lawn pools, music and alcohol.
