San Luis Obispo County holds the 2023 International Western Monarch Summit

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The 2023 International Western Monarch Summit hosted by the Western Monarch Advocates came to San Luis Obispo and sold out.

The three-day event had speakers for the conference from 4 countries and 9 states across the US to speak about how to save the butterfly monarch, amongst other challenges.

The speakers were selected to cover a broad range of topics affecting Western monarchs from creating habitats for bees to butterfly migration.

The weekend conference also took three field trips to the Woodlands Village Monarch Habitat, the Pismo State Beach Monarch Grove, and the Pollinator Gardens.

Sunday will conclude with a panel speaking about the challenges the butterfly monarch encounters and how to save them.
