70-year-old pronounced dead after driving off-road on State Route 46

PASO ROBLES, Calif.– A 70-year-old male driver of a 1998 Dodge Ram dually died while driving on State Route 46 west of Bethel Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

As stated in a CHP traffic report, the man drove across traffic and into a muddy grass embankment where a bystander who had seen the course of the events attempted to assist the driver. The man was possibly suffering a medical emergency.

Life-saving measures were performed by emergency personnel but was pronounced deceased at the scene. The cause remains unknown.

California Highway Patrol Templeton released the identity of the man as Richard H. Clement.
