Beaches across Central Coast torn up due to this week’s rainstorm
AVILA BEACH, Calif.- Beaches up and down the coast are torn up after this week's storm.
Visitors say they've rarely, if ever, seen the beach like this with scattered debris and the sand looking more like mud.
"I’m not used to it but I come out here and I take in sunset or take in just watch the waves go in you know every every day you know its a perk not too many people have working on the beach," said Arroyo Grande resident Bernard Livingston.
High tides and big waves brought water to the edge of the promenade making it difficult for people to enjoy the area.
The popular beach is scattered with debris and sand that looks more like mud due to this week’s rainstorm.
"And it drag a whole bunch of debris down the St. Louis Creek so it wasn’t a pretty sight for a while. I was all brown and dirty, and that started on the new year," said Avila Beach resident Carolyn Morton.
Some say they have never seen a storm like this hit the central coast.
I've lived here in the area for like nine years. And this is the worst we've ever seen it. We've ever seen it. Like our area in Arroyo Grande is flooded as well. Everybody's flooded everywhere. You know, I've never seen it like this," said Bernard Livingston.
Visitors hope the next storm doesn't bring as much destruction.
