SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — San Luis Obispo County Public Health says the California State health officials have issued new COVID-19 guidance for outdoor playgrounds and other outdoor recreational facilities on Tuesday.

The state has also updated the school guidance from August 3. The updated guidance will now include information on boarding schools.

The outdoor playground guidance has direction on outdoor playgrounds and recreational facilities in parks, campgrounds and other locations. The goal is to provide a safe environment for children and families.

The state health guidelines for playground and outside recreational areas includes visitors wearing masks, visitors not eating or drinking at the playground, adults and children from an individual household staying six feet apart, considering visiting the playground at different times and limiting visits to 30 minutes per day when others are present.

The new guidance updates for boarding schools includes residential dorms remaining closed regardless of tier status of their county until further state guidance is issued.

For boarding school's in-person instruction for day students, the school should follow the same guidelines as other K-12 schools.

“This new guidance helps provide more avenues for children and families to safely recreate outdoors,” said Dr. Penny Borenstein, County Health Officer. “We support the safe reopening of our outdoor playgrounds as we all continue our efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19 here in SLO County.”
