Vehicle fire extinguished on southbound side of Cuesta Grade

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. - California Highway Patrol and CAL FIRE responded to a vehicle fire that broke out at the top of the Cuesta Grade Monday afternoon.

The fire was first reported to CHP at 3:51 p.m. on the southbound side of Highway 101.

Officers reported finding a van and attached trailer fully engulfed in flames on the right-hand side of the freeway. Firefighters said the active flames posed a threat to nearby vegetation.

By 4:11 p.m., fire crews reported making good progress on the car fire. At this point the threat to nearby brush was greatly diminished.

Thanks to quick work, the fire was fully knocked down by 5:26 p.m. CHP and CAL FIRE crews were able to clear the area.

CHP said there was minimal impact on traffic, drivers were advised to take it slow in the area while all lanes remained open.
