Rain or shine, Crunch Fitness remains outdoors during pandemic

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Rain or shine, Crunch Fitness in Santa Maria is staying open for gym-goers outside.

"I’m very lucky that we have a roof, and I mean, the members keep coming. They don’t care about the rain," says general manager Art Quzada of Crunch Fitness.

Gym-goer Greg Monn said no rain or cold weather is keeping him from working out. "I can walk from my house, so it’s really easy to get here. This is a matter of working the body out, but it’s also a matter of relaxing and all that."

Members not only enjoy exercising outdoors, many say they don’t mind the cold.

"There’s a little bit of a breeze, but as soon as you start working out, you don’t feel the cold. You can ask some of the members in here. Some of them are not even wearing a jacket," says Quzada.

While the stay-at-home order lift does not allow for indoor services at gyms, Crunch Fitness managers hope they can turn their business back to normal in the near future.

"The sooner the better. That way we can pretty much go back inside, but right now I’m not worried about anything at all," says Quzada.
