Orcutt nail salon prepares to open with green light from county

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Santa Barbara County gave the green light for nail salons to resume their services indoors with limited capacity.

As of Wednesday at 5 p.m., nail salons in the county were allowed to operate indoors with a guideline.

Nail technician Christina Landeros in Orcutt said she found a spot for her nail salon during the pandemic, took the risk and signed a lease. Landeros had her business closed this entire time, but now is thrilled for this transition.

However, she said she is not ready to open just yet because, as a single mother of three, she does not want to leave her kids at home alone while she is working. Her kids are currently distance learning and need her help.

As essential as Landeros believes her job is, her children come first.

“I have to choose, do I keep my children safe and stay home and be here just a little bit and then scrape by or hopefully make it by?" said Landeros. "Or do I come to work and leave my children? It is very scary.”

For now, Landeros plans on opening the salon in the next few weeks. She said she is more than excited to see her clients again, many of whom feel a visit to the nail salon is important for their mental health.
