SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — For local families with a child battling pediatric cancer, COVID-19 is creating even greater challenges.

Some parents have lost their jobs and are no longer able to afford food, clothing or pay rent and medical expenses.

Several of these households have also had a family member contract COVID-19, which is quite concerning considering that they are caring for an immune-compromised child.

During this challenging time, Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation is providing more services than ever before.

This includes money for rental assistance, grocery gift cards, emotional support groups with licensed therapists, tutoring, care package deliveries and virtual family fun events to keep kids engaged.

Through community support, the TBCF has provided additional financial assistance to 31 local families severely affected by the pandemic.

During the month of September, the nonprofit will host its’ annual Gold Ribbon Campaign throughout National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Due to the pandemic, the annual in-person Gold Ribbon Campaign Luncheon at the Four Seasons Biltmore has been cancelled.

This year, the campaign is solely focused on raising funds and awareness for the organization and serving their families.

On September 25, the Gold Ribbon Campaign Online Silent Auction will go live with a special viewing outside the Nurture Cottage on Coast Village Road on Saturday, September 26 between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Masks are mandatory at the safe and socially distanced walk-through event.

Bidding closes on September 30th at 5:30 pm. Click here for the online auction link.
