Smoke from growing Sargents Fire visible in San Luis Obispo County

CENTRAL COAST, Calif. - Residents in San Luis Obispo County may see or smell smoke this Memorial Day weekend due to the Sargents Fire burning actively in Monterey County.

According to CAL FIRE, the wildfire jumped from 60 acres in size to 250 acres within a few hours. As of 6:30 p.m., the fire was 10% contained.

It started in the area of Wunpost Road and Sargeant Canyon Road south of San Ardo on Sunday.

It is unclear if any structures are threatened at this time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
