Two cats killed in fire at Atascadero mobile home

MGN

ATASCADERO, Calif. - Two cats were found dead after a fire ravaged a mobile home in Atascadero Friday night.

It started around 9:44 p.m. Firefighters received a call regarding a residential structure fire and responded to the 10025 El Camino Real #68.

Upon arriving, crews found heavy smoke coming from the front door and windows of the single-story mobile home. They said all occupants were able to exit the home safely, however, two cats remained inside.

Firefighters began attacking the fire and discovered that it had started in one of the home's bedrooms before spreading to a second bedroom and the hallway.

Crews said that, due to high heat, heavy smoke conditions and unorthodox furniture placement, the interior firefighters had difficulty reaching the seat of the fire.

The fire took about 20 minutes to fully extinguish. No firefighters were injured during the incident.

Sadly, both cats were found dead inside the home during the battle.

EMS crews administered medical treatment to one of the residents for smoke inhalation.

Fire crews remained on scene for another two hours to help salvage the home and investigate.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
