Brush fire extinguished in Santa Ynez Riverbed east of Lompoc

LOMPOC, Calif. - Firefighters successfully extinguished a small brush fire in the Santa Ynez Riverbed east of Lompoc Saturday afternoon.

Crews were dispatched to the fire just before 2 p.m. after black smoke was seen coming from the riverbed near Robinson Bridge.

Upon arriving, firefighters said they found a half-acre brush fire burning near multiple homeless encampments.

Crews with Santa Barbara County Fire and Vandenberg AFB responded to assist Lompoc City Fire.

The fire department said forward progress was stopped by 2:13 p.m. In total, the fire reportedly burned just under three-fourths of an acre. Crews remained on scene for some time mopping up the area to ensure the fire didn't start again.

No injuries were reported during this incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
