Vegetation fire burns 6.5 acres in Los Alamos

LOS ALAMOS, Calif. - Santa Barbara County firefighters stopped the forward progress of a vegetation fire that broke out in Los Alamos Saturday afternoon.

The fire was first reported at 3:05 p.m. off Highway 101, below the Skyview Los Alamos motel.

Firefighters said the fire burned 6.5 acres before it was halted.

The fire reportedly spread uphill toward the motel which was fully evacuated.

Fire crews worked to protect the building from damage with help from a dozer and helicopter.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
