SANTA MARIA, Calif. -- Righetti High School students had the opportunity to learn valuable lessons about the history of the world that helps explain the present and imagines the future.

Grasping history as a whole is the goal of the Big History Project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

About two dozen students in Mr. Curt Greeley's Modern World History class participated. Guest speaker Bob Regan joined the class via Zoom, donating a $50 Giaovanni's Pizza gift certificate to each student.

“It was very relevant and engaging for our students and community,’’ said LCFF Director Steve Molina, adding the lesson featured the new modern world history and digital curriculums.

The Big History Project covers nearly 14 billion years of history, dating back to the Big Bang. Chapters include how life evolves, how farming sows the seeds of civilization, and why change is accelerating faster and faster.

The Big History Project is focused on high school students, but it is available to anyone for free here.
