Santa Maria standoff ends as barricaded suspect surrenders to police

SANTA MARIA, Calif. – A person who barricaded himself inside a home Thursday afternoon surrendered to police after an hours-long standoff.

The incident began around 2 p.m. at a home on the 700 block of East Cypress Avenue.

The Santa Maria Police Department asked the public to avoid the active scene as they attempted to get barricaded person to surrender.

According to police, the barricaded person was a wanted man. Police attempted to make contact with the man from outside the home and tried to get him to surrender to law enforcement.

Police negotiators, an intervention team and police dogs were on scene.

By around 4:05 p.m., the man surrendered to law enforcement and police began clearing the scene.

The man has not yet been identified.
