Santa Barbara County District Attorney warns of restaurant online ordering scam in Goleta

GOLETA, Calif. - Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce E. Dudley is warning the community of a consumer scam involving a fake webpage for a restaurant in Goleta.

Dudley said the restaurant is called "La Tapatia #3" and the fake webpage is "latapatia3ca.club".

Dudley's office said the fake page is affiliated with the website OrderHero and has no actual connection to the restaurant. The webpage reportedly offers online ordering for pickup at the restaurant, including taking customer payment and credit card information. These orders are never forwarded to the restaurant and thus never fulfilled.

The DA's office is advising the community to always verify that websites are legitimate before ordering food and other products online, especially when using a new or lesser-known provider.

Anyone with information about online scams involving fake websites or OrderHero is encouraged to contact Investigator Greg Hons, District Attorney’s Office at 805-568-2390.
