Oxnard teen arrested for possession of loaded semiautomatic handgun, illegal drugs

OXNARD, Calif. - Oxnard police arrested a 16-year-old resident Friday night after locating a loaded semiautomatic handgun and illegal narcotics in their possession.

Around 9:28 p.m., officers from the Oxnard Special Enforcement Unit (or Gang Unit) contacted a 16-year-old Oxnard resident in the area of C street and Kamala Street for a suspected traffic violation.

Police said, during the interaction, they discovered the teen had a loaded, concealed semiautomatic handgun in their possession. The teen was immediately arrested and searched. Police said they found Illegal drugs in the teen's possession as well.

The teen was charged with firearms violations and drug possession and booked into juvenile hall.

The Oxnard Police Department said its Special Enforcement Unit is committed to reducing gang crimes and gun violence throughout the city. Officers do this through the strict enforcement of laws specifically targeting known, active gang members living in the city.
