Man arrested for allegedly firing guns at trees, homes north of Camarillo

Ventura County Sheriff's Office

CAMARILLO, Calif. - A Somis man was arrested Friday for allegedly firing a gun multiple times in his neighborhood north of Camarillo this week.

Camarillo police said they received reports of shots fired near the 500 block of East La Loma Avenue in Somis on Tuesday, June 8.

Upon arriving in the neighborhood, deputies attempted to question a man who lived in the area but said he was extremely uncooperative. The man reportedly told deputies they were not welcome on his property.

The deputies continued to search the area but were unable to find evidence of the gunfire, however, as they conducted follow-up, they said they heard a barrage of gunfire in the area.

Based on the sound, deputies estimated the gunfire was coming from a large caliber firearm.

The next day, detectives continued the follow-up investigation and discovered fresh bullet strikes in eucalyptus trees south of the Somis man's home.

They said the trajectory of the bullets was in direct line of a neighboring residence. Deputies determined, if the trees had not been there, the bullets would have likely struck a home.

With this new evidence, detectives said they were able to obtain a search warrant for the Somis man's home in order to search for evidence of a shooting.

On Friday, June 11, detectives pulled over the Somis man in his car and arrested him. They then returned to the man's home and executed the search warrant.

During the search, they said they found evidence that a gun had been fired as well as a large cache of firearms, ammunition and equipment used to manufacture ammunition--all of which were seized by detectives.

The Somis man was booked at the Ventura County Jail and faces charges for the negligent discharge of a firearm and shooting at an inhabited dwelling. His bail was set at $60,000.

The man is scheduled to appear in court on June 15.
