SLO County deputies search for teen who fled after high-speed chase east of Shandon

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. - San Luis Obispo County deputies are searching for a 19-year-old man who fled his vehicle after a high-speed chase on Highways 46 and 41 Saturday afternoon.
Deputies said around 2:15 p.m., they received a call from California Highway Patrol stating that a red Volkswagen coupe was driving recklessly eastbound on Highway 46 just east of Shandon.
A deputy sheriff responded to the area and pulled over the vehicle a short time later. They said the driver, identified as 19-year-old Dylan Keanu Wilson from Merced, was uncooperative and confrontational with the deputy.
Wilson then sped off in his car and deputies followed for a short time until conditions became unsafe.
Deputies said the Volkswagen was followed by a CHP helicopter which saw the teen crash his car and begin to flee on foot. Wilson then got back inside the car and continued driving at high speeds on northbound Highway 41 until he drove off the road and through a fence. He then reportedly fled on foot again.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the area along with K9 Units, CHP air and ground units and Kern County deputies to search for the young man.
Wilson was not located. The sheriff's office said they do not believe he poses any danger to the public at this time.
The Volkswagen was towed from the scene. Deputies said felony charges for fleeing with willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property will be filed with the District Attorney's Office.
