Oxnard police arrest two after short pursuit through neighborhood
OXNARD, Calif. - Oxnard police arrested two men Thursday morning after a short pursuit through a neighborhood.
Around 10:17 a.m., officers tried to stop a white Nissan for a traffic violation on Wooley Road near I Street. They said the driver refused to pull over and instead led officers on a pursuit through the Hill Street neighborhood.
The pursuit reportedly ended when the car became stuck in heavy traffic near 5 Points.
Officers said the car's passenger threw a bag out the window before fleeing on foot.
After another short chase, police caught up with him and arrested the 21-year-old Oxnard resident.
Officers then retrieved the discarded bag from the street and found an assault weapon inside.
The man was booked into the Ventura County Jail on suspicion of possessing an assault weapon. The driver of the car, a 20-year-old Oxnard resident, was also arrested for evading the police.
