SB Unified employee accused of sexual abuse of child

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - An employee with the Santa Barbara Unified School District has been arrested and is accused of sexually abusing a child and possessing child pornography.

The school district confirmed on Tuesday that an employee was arrested earlier this month and faces felony charges related to abuse of a child.

The employee, who was not named, faces felony charges for continuous sexual abuse of a child and possession or control of child pornogprahy. The employee also faces a misdemeanor of "Invade Privacy: Look Through Holes/Etc.”

The employee was immediately placed on unpaid leave, a representative for the school district said.

The school district said that police have advised that the crimes appear to be isolated and were a domestic matter. Santa Barbara police said there is no threat to the public and no evidence of any abuse of students of the school district, but the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information related to the arrest is asked to contact the Santa Barbara Police Department at 805-897-2346.
