Suspect arrested for arson after small fire extinguished in front of Paso Robles grocery store

PASO ROBLES, Calif. - A suspect was arrested on arson charges after Paso Robles firefighters helped extinguish a small fire in front of a grocery store Thursday morning.

The fire was reported around 5:37 a.m. at the Smart & Final on the 2100 block of Spring Street.

When Paso Robles Fire arrived at the scene, they found police had already detained one person.

Light smoke could be seen coming from a pile of smoldering debris in front of the store's entrance. An employee of the store was already trying to extinguish the burn with a fire extinguisher and firefighters stepped in to finish the job.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported and the Smart & Final was able to open for usual business after the burned debris was cleaned up.

The suspect was arrested and booked for arson.
