Ventura man arrested for assaulting victim with bat in Port Hueneme

PORT HUENEME, Calif. - The Port Hueneme Police Department arrested a man from Ventura for injuring a victim with a bat Friday evening.

Around 7:45 p.m., police responded to Port Hueneme Road and N. Surfside Drive to investigate a traffic crash.

Officers said two vehicles were involved and the driver of one car fled the scene on foot.

During the investigation, a fight reportedly broke out across the street from the crash on the 600 block of Port Hueneme Road.

Police said about six individuals were involved in the fight, one reportedly wielded a bat.

Officers ran across the street to separate the altercation, however, three individuals, including the one with the bat, fled the scene. One person reportedly sustained head injuries during the fight and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Officers pursued the suspects through the north alley of Hueneme Road. They reported the man with the bat discarded his bat before entering the
courtyard of an apartment complex on the 100 block of Ann Avenue while continuing to run from police.

Police finally caught up with the suspect after chasing him further into the apartment complex.

The 24-year-old Ventura man was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and was transported to the Ventura County Main Jail.
