San Luis Obispo man arrested after taking hostages inside home

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - A San Luis Obispo man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly broke into a home and took the residents hostage.
At around 1:40 p.m., police responded for a report of a suspicious circumstances and a possible drug overdose on the 1200 block of Murray Avenue.
Dispatch received word that a man was possibly overdosing but was then told he had a gun and was threatening to shoot police officers.
The man then entered an unlocked home and told the residents he had a gun and was holding them hostage.
When police arrived on scene, the man came out of the home but was not complying with orders, police said.
Due to previous reports that the man might be armed, police deployed a less-lethal gel baton round to subdue him. He was taken into custody and was found not to have a weapon on his person.
Police said the two people who were briefly taken hostage were not injured.
The man was taken to the hospital for evaluation and is set to be booked in to the San Luis Obispo County Jail. He's expected to face charges for false imprisonment, making criminal threats and resisting arrest.
